from his poem: Duplicity

I swim peripheral glances.
Back-stroke being ignored.
Wade on a chair
in a corner of the room,
chat up the Help
some(not brown or black)one
tosses me
an integration lifeline.
Hard truth:
Light & Dark
sparkle the waters
like tinsel,
pretty chimera. …

Poem originally appeared at Pluck! The Journal of Affrilachian Arts & Culture
(University of Kentucky). From the manuscript Diaspora’s Dust.
